        Division 2 - Bargod 1 v 0 Maesglas Reserves

Bargod Rangers maintained their 100% start to the season with a narrow 1-0 win against a spirited Maesglas reserve side. The winning score came after only 7 minutes play when an accurate through ball from centre back Cef Edwards was miss timed in the air by a Maesglas centre half and pounced on by striker Memo Dag who fired a low left footed half-volley into the corner, giving the keeper no chance. Although the score suggests otherwise, only some weak finishing coupled with some fantastic saves and the assistance of the woodwork prevented a comfortable victory. A 25 yard effort from Joe Owen cannoned against the bar with Ben Partis firing the rebound into the side netting.

That was shortly followed by a tremendous left foot free kick by full back Aled ap Neill which was tipped onto the crossbar with a fine save. Some woeful heading from Harri Stephens saw two headers fly wide of the target, and the score remained the same at the interval.

Man of the match, Maesglas goalkeeper continued to thwart Bargod in the second half, producing point blank saves from Stephens and Llew Jones, also pushing wide, shots from Jones again, Dag and Adam Morgan. Cenral midfielder Sam Skinner was shown the red card 5 minutes from time for a second bookable offence which sees him miss Rangers trip to Pencader in the league cup in a few weeks time. Full credit to Maesglas who although not forcing a save all game have a young side who are obviously getting better every week and on that performance should stay up this season. |
